Easy Green Vs Flourish – What Is The Better Fertilizer?

There are a huge number of people switching over to planted tanks or trying their hand at aquascaping right now and with so many planted tank setups going viral on social media, we only expect this trend to increase moving forward.

As you may expect, this has resulted in more and more people reaching out with various questions about keeping the plants in their aquariums healthy and happy.

One thing that is becoming more popular is the use of fertilizer products and this really is great to see as it helps to counter the majority of the problems that we see people having with the live plants in their tanks.

Due to this, there has been a shift in the type of question that we have been seeing recently though with there being a distinct shift away from problems people are having with their plants to questions about deciding on the fertilizer that they should use.

This is why we have decided to publish this dedicated article going over our easy green vs flourish comparison to try and help our readers decide between the two.

Before we go any further though, we just want to say that both are great products that have some slight advantages over each other in some areas but using either product should be able to help the majority of plants in your tank.

What Is Easy Green?

The first thing to note is that easy green is not actually a fertilizer product but is instead what is known as an ‘additive’.

This means that it is designed to be used alongside your regular fertilizer regime and not as a replacement for it.

It is worth mentioning at this point that there are some people out there that do use easy green as their sole source of fertilizer but this is not something that we would recommend but it can work depending on your setup.

The reason for this is that easy green does not contain all of the nutrients that your plants need to stay healthy and so, using it on its own is likely to result in some deficiencies developing over time.

What Is Flourish?

Flourish is a fertilizer product that is made by Seachem and is designed to be used as the sole source of nutrients for the plants in your aquarium.

It contains everything that your plants need to stay healthy and so, using it on its own should not result in any deficiencies developing.

One advantage that Flourish has over Easy Green is that it also contains iron which is something that your plants need in relatively large quantities.

This means that if you are using Easy Green on its own, you will likely need to supplement with iron separately but if you are using Flourish, you will not need to.

Is Easy Green A Good Fertilizer?

Easy Green is a great fertilizer product and one that we would definitely recommend using in the right situation.

It is very easy to use and can be added to your tank on a weekly basis without any problems.

It is also very cheap to buy which is always a bonus!

Depending on your setup, you may have to use an additional fertilizer product with Easy Green as it is not considered nutritionally complete.

Is Flourish A Good Fertilizer?

Flourish is an excellent fertilizer product and one that we would definitely recommend using.

It is very easy to use and can be added to your tank on a weekly basis without any problems.

It also contains everything that your plants need to stay healthy which means that you will not need to supplement with anything else.

The only downside to Flourish is that it is slightly more expensive than Easy Green but this is to be expected as it is nutritionally complete.

How Do You Use Easy Green Aquarium Fertilizer?

Easy Green is very easy to use and can be added to your tank on a weekly basis without any problems.

To use it, simply add the recommended amount to your aquarium and then top up with water as usual.

You should then fertilize your plants as normal using either a liquid or granular fertilizer product.

How Do You Use Flourish Aquarium Fertilizer?

Flourish is also very easy to use and can be added to your tank on a weekly basis to help your live plants thrive in your tank.

Follow the dosing instructions on the label of your product to correctly dose the Seachem Flourish for your tank and plant count and then leave it to do its job to help your plants grow.

Does Easy Green Or Flourish Have Iron?

Easy green contains trace amounts of Iron that is usually considered far too low to be the only source of Iron supplementation for your plants so many people will not consider its Iron content to be sufficient and class it as a produce that does not contain Iron.

Although Flourish does contain Iron, it may not be enough Iron for a heavily planted tank so the specialized Seachem Flourish Iron variant of the product will probably be a better option if you are looking to supplement Iron in your tanks.

We have a dedicated article going over adding iron to your aquarium if this is something that you are specifically trying to do that may be helpful though.

Do I Need Both Easy Green And Flourish?

No, you definitely do not need both products and we would actually recommend against using them together as this could lead to an accumulation of nutrients in your tank which could potentially be harmful to your plants or fish.

If you are looking for a complete fertilizer product that is very easy to use, we would recommend using Flourish on its own as it contains everything that your plants need to stay healthy.

If you are looking for a cheaper option that is still very easy to use, we would recommend using Easy Green on its own but you will probably need to supplement with iron separately as it is not nutritionally complete.

Easy Green Vs Flourish – What Is Better?

In our opinion, Seachem Flourish is the better product but Easy Green can work in some tank setups and its budget friendly price tag does make it an attractive option for people on a budget.

If you are looking for a complete fertilizer that will not require any supplemental products then we would definitely recommend going for the Flourish option but if you are just starting out and trying to keep costs down then Easy Green could be a good place to start.

Both products are very easy to use so there is no real winner in that respect and we would say that both products are good at what they do.
