With the popularity of keeping various types of birds increasing drastically over the last couple of years, the number of questions that people have been asking has also been skyrocketing too.
We see a wide range of different questions but there has been a distinct increase in the number of people reaching out and asking if various types of hybrid bird are real or not.
Although there are many hybrid birds out there these days, many of the ones that you see on social media are fake.
With a number of photographs and videos of a macaw cockatoo hybrid going viral on social media recently, we have noticed a spike in the number of people asking if this bird is real or not.
This is why we have decided to publish this article to try and help as many of our readers as possible who are thinking of getting a macaw cockatoo hybrid!
Is The Macaw Cockatoo Hybrid A Real Bird?
The macaw cockatoo hybrid is not a real bird and although there are a number of people claiming that you can successfully breed a macaw and a cockatoo together, it is scientifically impossible with our current technology.
The cockatoo is from the cacatua genus of birds where as the macaw can actually be from a number of different genus’ depending on the specific type but they will always be from the Ara, Anodorhynchus, Cyanopsitta, Primolius, Orthopsittaca or Diopsittaca genus.
As you can see, there is no overlap between the macaw and the cockatoo so the two species of bird are not able to successfully create viable, fertilized eggs with each other.
This is not to say that the two types of bird may not breed with each other.
We are simply saying that there is no chance of the birds producing offspring when and if they do breed.
In the future, there is a possibility that our technology levels will advance to a stage where it may be viable to artificially produce a macaw cockatoo hybrid but we doubt that this will be a priority when such technology exists.

But I Saw A Macaw Cockatoo Hybrid On Social Media!
There are a huge number of posts made each month be it photograph or video that claim to be some new, hybrid bird but many of these are fake.
If you have seen anything claiming to be a hybrid of a macaw and a cockatoo then we are confident that you are able to rule the post out as being fake.
There is a small chance that the person who has posted the photograph or video on social media was unfortunately missold the bird with the seller telling them it is a macaw cockatoo hybrid and often charging a high price.
Many of these photographs and videos are fake with the image being heavily edited to make a cockatoo or a macaw look unique or to exaggerate certain features of the bird to make it look more like a hybrid.
We have no idea why so many people are creating these fake posts right now but over the last six to twelve months, they have become far more common on social media.
But I Saw A Macaw Cockatoo Hybrid For Sale!
There is a disturbing trend of more and more people listing these “hybrid” birds for sale and as we touched on above, this is often a regular cockatoo or macaw that is not a hybrid but the seller is just trying to increase the price tag of the bird.
We have seen some of these online listings actually sell too with price tags being five times higher than what the bird should have sold for.
Thankfully, many of the online sites that allow people to list birds for sale have great moderation teams that delete the posts as soon as they are made now.
Unfortunately though, the people listing these “hybrid” birds for sale are starting to move to other platforms where the moderation team may not be as knowledgeable about birds allowing people to purchase what they think is a hybrid.
We really do hope that this article will be able to help as many of our readers as possible who see these posts offering a macaw cockatoo hybrid for sale avoid being ripped off though.
